Hong Kong Roundtable 4

ASPIRE convened the 4th and final edition of the Hong Kong Roundtable series, bringing together clinicians, academics and health system leaders to advance practical solutions across the lung cancer care continuum. While this marked the conclusion of the multi-roundtable series dedicated to shaping evidence-based, patient-centred policy in Hong Kong, the conversations and commitments will continue through ongoing collaboration and action.

This 4th edition was structured in two parts:

  • 🔹 Session One – Delphi Panel on Lung Cancer Screening, led by CUHK, dedicated to formalising recommendations on screening eligibility, imaging and diagnostic protocols, building on and validating priorities from 1st edition
  • 🔹 Session Two – Care Continuum Roadmap, synthesising insights from across the series, from screening, diagnostics, treatment, affordability to system-level supports and patient-centred care, into a unified set of recommendations

Discussions spanned the full pathway of care:

  • ✔️ Eligibility for Screening – refining age, smoking history and family history, while clarifying exclusion rules to avoid ambiguity
  • ✔️ Diagnosis & Care Coordination – tackling delays, strengthening MDT structures, and bridging public-private gaps to improve patient outcome
  • ✔️ Treatment, Recurrence & Survivorship – ensuring equitable access, reducing recurrence risk, and building structured survivorship support
  • ✔️ System-Level Supports – exploring centralised lung nodule registries and infrastructure to standardise follow-up care
  • ✔️ Clinical & Patient-Centred Recommendations – reinforcing shared decision-making and equitable access as cornerstones of effective care

Looking ahead, ASPIRE will draft a targeted policy brief to support improvements in lung cancer care in Hong Kong, which will be presented to key policymakers to ensure momentum continues towards the building of consensus-driven policy to drive meaningful change in cancer care.
